In 1999, after nearly 15 years in the fields of pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine, Dr. Bernardo Pimentel had a vision to put together the most outstanding family-centered, perinatal/neonatal care group in the South Florida area – South Dade Neonatology. Along with an elite group of prominent neonatologists, Dr. Pimentel enjoys helping families in their time of need in many different facets of their baby’s recovery. He has maintained board certifications in both Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and is a fellow of American Academy of Pediatrics. He holds hospital privileges in five hospitals, including Mercy Hospital, Miami Children’s Hospital, Kendall Regional Medical Center, Hialeah Hospital and Baptist Hospital, serving local, national and international patients. Dr. Pimentel continues to serve as the Newborn Director for the NICU at the Kendall Regional Medical Center since 1996 and as the Chief Newborn-NICU Division of Mercy Hospital since 1992.

Dr. Pimentel’s research focus includes Flow Cytometric Analysis of Blood from Healthy Infants and Nucleotide Effect in Formula-Fed Infants which he has presented before elite medical communities at symposiums in both South Carolina, Washington, D.C. and published in The Pediatrics Journal of Medicine. His professional societies include the Cuban Pediatrics Society in Exile, The American Academy of Pediatrics, Southeastern Association of Neonatologists and The Florida Pediatric Society. He has been published in professional medical journals including Critical Care Medicine Pediatrics and Journal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis. His vast experience and expertise serving an international community has helped South Dade Neonatology become a much sought-out care provider throughout Florida and beyond.
